PURPOSE
A key strategic role within the Product Creation team, the purpose of this position is to set the global product strategy, lead the team, across 3 key functions ((Product Management, Design, and Development), be the face of the business cross functionally across the organization. The Business Unit team is responsible to establish, maintain, and drive the 5-year strategy, Global product plan for the category, grow Global Market Share, thru innovative product and cross functional collaboration with sales, marketing, and finance. The Business Unit (BU) Director is also in charge of achieving or exceeding margin targets, achieving or exceeding Global Gross Sales revenue targets, optimizing SKU utilization, ensuring that product creation meets go to market deadlines including successful delivery of all key milestones outlined by Compass calendar and continuously improving the operating process of the team in achieving the above.  Additionally, the BU Director will influence cross functional corporate functions (sales, Go-To-Market, supply planning, sourcing, finance, demand planning, etc.) in achieving market Share Growth, achieving, or exceeding net margin targets and achieving or exceeding Net Sales revenue targets. The mindset of this role takes on a GM orientation with a strong strategic plan focusing on the consumer and creating a product offering, clear messaging, and a deep innovation pipeline to make CCM the brand of choice in this category.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Drive a strong Unique Selling Proposition to support annual category product launches.
  • Work collaboratively with other product categories, marketing, and external resources, to provide sell-in materials, presentations, and consumer messages to ensure commercial team execution. 
  • Own the financial results of the category – bring a general manager mindset and drive to the business.  Drive analytical approach to maximize profitability and resource allocation.
  • Take ownership of category short, medium, and long-term strategic direction.
  • Be consumer obsessed. Use available data and ensure team is consistently developing using the voice of the consumer. Develop product that definitively/quantitatively helps players achieve their goals.
  • Create a positive, forward looking, innovation driven performance culture within the team, and contribute the same across the broader organization.
  • Manage the resources within the BU to achieve the objectives as listed in “purpose” above.
  • Prepare and manage the operating budget for the BU to achieve the targets.
  • Be the face of the BU category within the company, presentations to customers and executive team members on regular basis.
  • Own the category innovation pipeline supported by the investment strategy, with in synch closely with Innovation Director to drive investment needs.
  • Own the final decision-making responsibility to improve speed, efficiency, and profitability.
  • Display a high level of critical thinking in cross functional process analysis and problem resolution for new and existing products.
  • Work closely with other BU leaders to ensure alignment and maximize company’s overall sales/ profitability.
  • Work in close collaboration with Sourcing, Supply Planning, Operations, Finance, Sales (NA and EU), and Marketing.
  • Build strong relationships with our key retailers and buying committees.
  • Focus on building a Culture of Excellence within the BU – in product innovation, quality assurance, and achieving all Sales and Profitability Targets.
  • Supervise design, development, quality assurance, and product management. 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • University Degree in Marketing, Business, Engineering, or related field. An MBA is a definite asset.
  • At least 15 years’ experience in the field of Product Creation (product management, development, design), including coaching and development management experience.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and leadership skills. 
  • Excellent problem solving, organization, and planning experience.
  • Excellent decision-making skills.
  • Effective interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Extensive budget management experience, planning, and tracking.
  • Strong strategic thinker, ability to set long term strategic vision for team and connect them individually to it.
  • Ability to prioritize.
  • Ability to recognize talent, willingness to empower and entrust, and building of a strong BU organization. 
  • Experience working or traveling in Asia is a definite asset. 
  • Strong financial background, to be able to dissect opportunities for growth strategically.
  • Bilingual (French and English) is a definite asset.
